piCture pOlish Blog/Insta Fest 2014 featuring Eyre, Bonkers, and Beige

Yess!! It's the time I've been waiting for since last year. piCture pOlish blog/insta Fest 2014! This will be my first year participating in this event, where piCture pOlish collaborating with numbers of bloggers and ig-ers to challenge our creativity in creating a nail art look with the shades picked and provided by piCture pOlish.
This year is a little different, as you can see in the header, this year's blog/insta fest  is featuring Nail Vinyls. I will have all the deets after the teaser pic below ;). It's a long post!

For the half part of this blog/insta fest, I was sent one shade to review. I have Eyre, a dark blue holographic with PP signature silver flecks in it. It's super gorgeous in any lighting! The combination of holo and flakes is just perfect for this, plus it has this chrome like shine that makes it extra special. I used 3 thin coats here+top coat. Formula is ok, it could get patchy if you go over the same area repeatedly while applying the polish, so keep the brush stroke to minimum or use lighter touch. This shade is a re-make of the discontinued Ozotic, but I don't remember which one (sorry!).

And now onto the other half of this event, the fun and challenging part of this blog/insta fest! We were all sent 2 shades to work with for this part, along with one type of Nail Vinyls. There are restrictions for this part, we can't use any other type of nail art, no stamping, decals, acrylic paint, tape, gradient, dots, nothing but the vinyls and nail brush! We're allowed to use black & white as addition, but they can't be the focus. Very challenging! I tried to think outside the box for this one.
The shades I have to work with is Bonkers and Beige, and chevron mini vinyls, and this is the result.. I'm probably gonna call this "When Geometric meets Chevron.." Too cheese? Haha..

I also have a pictorial to show you how I create this look. Keep in mind I'm only allowed to use the nail vinyls provided and nail brush(es) :)

  • Start with 2 coats of Beige as the base colour.
  • Using a nail art brush, I painted a triangle shape with Bonkers
  • Fill in the triangle, this part can be done with a nail art brush or polish brush. Let dry  completely or use fast dry top coat before moving to the next step.

  • Place 2 vinyls in diagonal according to the triangle shape shape. The first one should be placed halfway in the red triangle.
  • Paint over the vinyls
  • Remove the vinyls right away when the polish is still wet.

The process here is the same as above, but I suggest to use a nail art brush to fill in between the vinyls and near the cuticles to minimize clean up.
Let dry completely or use fast dry top coat before moving to the next step.

  • Place 3 vinyls vertically on the nail
  • Using a nail art brush and Beige, fill between the 3 vinyls and make sure you only fill in the red triangle area.
  • Remove the vinyls right away when the polish is still wet
  • Using a nail art brush and black polish (I used China Glaze Liquid Leather), create a thick outline around the red triangle. Finish with top coat.

As a bonus, here's the swatch of each shade. Both without top coat, 2 coats for Bonkers and 3 coats for Beige.

  1. Love this! I like what you did with the vinyls, especially considering how strict the rules were.

  2. I really like the polishes you were sent to use for the vinyls. They look like they were made for each other. Very creative way to use the vinyls too. I would have had a hard time coming up with something other than a typical chevron manicure.

    1. I agree, individually these are not my favorite shades, but they work good together. Oh man.. It was hard to come up with anything, honestly. Especially with all the restrictions.

    1. Hi Natalie, PP announced the time when you can apply for the blogfest. It was only a short period of time, 24 hours if I remember correctly. Then they decide who got in.
