When Customer Service Fails..

Hi guys! Today's post is different than usual. No pretty polish or nail art. Instead, I would like to share my worst experience with you. I took some time to think whether or not I want to post this, then I thought, if I could (and I have) share my good and wonderful experience then I should do the same with the opposite.

I often see the slogan 'support indies' used in instagram posts, and other social network, when someone posting their manicures using an indie polish. I have to admit, I am picky when it comes to choosing which indie brands to buy, and I only have a small handful of indie brands in my collection. I usually observe the brand for quite some time before I decided to try it, mainly because I have limited amount of fund to spend on polish and indie is quite expensive compared to mainstream brands. So when I decided to spend on something, I want to be sure that I get my money's worth, in quality and customer service

Now before I get into what I want to share with you, let me stress that I am sharing my personal experience as a customer, not a blogger.

I had a custom polish made last year by one of a new indie brand (at that time), Colors by Llarowe, late last year. It's gorgeous, and I loved it so much. So did many of my friends. I decided that I want to share my beautiful polish with my friends, and one bottle is not enough to share with 4-5 people. Fill line drives me nuts, so decanting the polish is not an option. So here goes what happened..

======================================================================================================

Feb 4, 2014. I contacted the maker and asked if she could make extra bottles of my custom.

Feb 10, 2014. I received a positive response, yes! But I have to sent a decant so she can recreate it, since she doesn't keep recipes for custom polishes.

There was a back and forth convo before we agreed on price and she gave me the address on Feb 12, I told her that I will mail the decant the following Monday.

Feb 17, 2014. I shipped the decant.

March 5, 2014. After a little over two weeks has passed, I sent an email asking if she has received my decant. I didn't get a reply.

March 11, 2014. By this date i hadn't received a response, so I tagged her directly in a fan group for the brand. She then responded saying that she did receive the decant.

March 13, 2014. I emailed her again to let her know how many bottles I want her to make. It wasn't discussed in the initial convo, and she also didn't ask about it when she received the decant.

May 3, 2014. I sent another email asking if she's still going to recreate my custom. There were no communication since she confirmed she has my decant.

June 13, 2014. I forwarded my email convo about the custom to Customer Support's email I found on the website, asking the CS to pass along my request to cancel the custom recreation. My reasons, other than because there were no communication, I found another polish(es) from the brand that looked very similar with my custom there's no point in having back up bottles, I just told my friends to get that polish if they liked my custom.

June 27, 2014. Found a different email address for Customer Support, didn't get a reply from the last one, so I forwarded the email convo again. Got a reply on the same day saying that she will pass along the message.

July 22, 2014. I emailed CS again asking about what happened to the decant I sent. Since it was cancelled, I assumed that I will be getting it back, but no one contacted me about it.

Aug 8, 2014. I didn't get a reply on my last email sent. So I emailed an asked again.

Aug 12, 2014. Received a reply from CS, apologizing for the delay in replying since they had just recently moved. Confirmed that the maker does have my decant and will take care in sending it back to  me.

Sept 10, 2014. I didn't get my decant back, nor did anyone contacted me to confirm my return address or give me a tracking number. I emailed CS again and asked about it. I still haven't gotten a reply to this as this post is written.

Oct 6, 2014. Since I was getting nowhere in emails, I posted on their business page on Facebook. Basically asking the same thing, where is my decant? This post was ignored, though another post right above mine was replied.

Oct 8, 2014. I re-posted it again, really just copy/paste the whole thing, and added that I will keep posting until I get an answer. I finally get a reply saying that she has sent back my decant several months ago and she couldn't get the tracking info right away because the 'shipping computer' has closed for the day. She also apologized that CS didn't reply to me and offered to make me a sample if my decant 'got lost in the mail'.
I followed up the next day, but once again, I was ignored.
=======================================================================================================

So there you go. At this point I am certain that I will never get my decant back, nor do I care for it anymore. I was hoping that at the very least I will get an explanation that make sense or a sincere apology.

I realize that indie makers are a small business with very few employees, but it doesn't mean it's ok to completely ignore a customer when you haven't completed your end of the deal. Even a short reply would make a lot of difference on how I feel about the situation, and I'm not talking about reply from CS, that's not who I was communicating with in the first place.

Another odd thing that caught my attention, if they indeed have sent back the decant as they claimed, it struck me as weird that a business would send something out without any notification or tracking number given to the recipient. Especially with the no follow up after saying that she will find out about the tracking.

Now god knows what really happened to that decant, but lets say that they misplaced it.. Would I be upset? Yes, probably, and disappointed. But I know I would get over it and valued their honesty for owning up that they screwed up. Would I feel the need to bring up the matter here? Most definitely not.

People love supporting indies not only because of the creativity of each individual, but often I hear/read that when they do support a brand, it's because they love the customer support or the interaction the brands have with their customers. Like I said at the beginning, I was picky when it comes to choosing indie brands, but I have supported this brand since their first launch. So it is such a disappointment to have experienced this. I can only hope that I'm just the only unlucky one to have had this experience, and that no one else shared a similar experience.

I'm not writing this post out of spite or because I'm expecting to get some kind of compensation for this. I only want to share with you that this unfortunate and unacceptable thing happened. Yes, I was upset, and had I chose to write this a month ago or even a week ago the tone would have been different. I want people, my readers, to know that while it is a great thing supporting small businesses, but they are still in fact a business, and as customers, you deserved to be treated with respect. That's all I hoped for and didn't get. And for that, they have lost one customer.

If you have read this far, thank you for taking your time! I will be back posting pretty polishes :)

Pueen 59 & Colors by Llarowe "Oops"

Happy hump day! Today I'm wearing a simple stamp mani over a super gorgeous polish that's unfortunately is not available to purchase anymore since this is just a small batch prototype that didn't make it to the collection.
There are several version of 'oops' polishes, and I think this is the prettiest one (but I only have one haha). It's a color shifting base with scattered holo effect and holographic microglitter. The formula is a bit thick and dry gritty, I used 2 coats of top coat to smooth it out (before and after the stamp)

I used Pueen 59 from the Buffet set and Color Club Harp On It to stamp the design. Color Club holo never disappoint when used for stamping! Love them!

Close up look. Amazing, right?!

Swatches: Colors by Llarowe Melon Wine

Happy first day of spring! Although it still doesn't feel like spring here. But, I'm wearing something bright to inspire spring to really show herself :D
This is the last one from my small CbL haul, Melon Wine. It's a bright coral pink with subtle blue shimmer. The formula is really good and very easy to apply, a little on the sheer side though. I used 3 thin coats and can still see some visible nail lines. Still, a really lovely shade and I'll probably wear it again in the summer.

It's more vibrant in person than what the pics here are showing. I used 1 coat of HK Girl top coat.

This shade was discontinued and brought back with the Spring Frenzy collection, but I'm not sure if it will stay. So grab it while you still can! As this post is written, there's still a few left, you can get it here, hurry! :D

NOTD: Colos by Llarowe Shy-Ann

Good morning! I want to share with you my new favorite CbL. Once it's on my nail, it's love at first sight. Shy-Ann, thankfully doesn't represent her name at all. There's nothing shy about this polish. It is a pink leaning purple linear holo with added sparkle, it's 'pop' on your nails. I have not had a a chance to see it under the sun, but I bet it's gonna be amazing. Holo+sparkle? I'm always sold on that!

I used 3 thin coats and top coat (HK Girl). The 3rd coat wasn't really necessary, you can totally getaway with just 2,

Swatches: Colors by Llarowe Waters of Belize

Hi guys! I have another Colors by Llarowe shade for you tonight. I'm still wearing this one since I swatched it yesterday. This one is a part of the new Spring Frenzy collection, Waters of Belize. This is described by the maker as "a sea blue crelly with light blue shimmer/sheen". I think the definition of sea blue can be differ from one person with another. To me this looks like a bright teal, but in certain lightning the blue looks stronger.

I also have to tell you that this one is really tricky to photograph, pics just won't show the real color as I see it in person. I freaked out when I saw in my camera display is showing as an aqua blue, so I took some pics with my iphone, and it looks more accurate. But when I transfer the files from my camera to computer, it's showing almost as close as what I took with iphone. I didn't color correct any of the pics, and these are the most accurate I can get it on pics.

I used 3 thin coats and top coat. First pic I took with my camera, and the rest with my iphone and a macro lens.

Swatches: Colors by Llarowe Fresh Cut Grass

Today I received 4 new CbL in the mail, they were from the last pre-order, and I cannot wait to swatch them and decide which one to wear first! So I'm starting with Fresh Cut Grass. This one is actually from last year's summer collection. It was discontinued, so when I saw it was brought back, I had to have it. I'm not sure if it was a one time thing or they are moving this one to the core collection, so you probably would want to follow Colors by Llarowe on facebook to get more info about anything, restock, new line, giveaways.. :)

Fress Cut Grass is described as a grass green jelly based with holographic microglitter. The formula on mine is really good. Build up to opacity in 3 coats, and doesn't look thick at all. Only one coat of shiny top coat was needed to smooth it out and brings out the sparkle. Although I was a little disappointed that it's slightly darker than I expected, it is still a beautiful polish, and I'm glad I got it. I think it look nice on my skin tone.

(This is very green in person! For some reason my camera always freaks out when taking pics of royal purple and dark gliterry green like this.)

NOTD: Colors by Llarowe Come Dance The Hora

Hi guys!

Yesterday I told you I have 2 new polishes joining my stash, and I showed you one of them. Now here's the other one. It's one of the polish from Colors by Llarowe Xmas/Hanukkah 2013 collection, Come Dance The Hora.
It's a silver linear holographic with silver and blue hexes. I like it! It's looks complex and super sparkly. I need this polish in every color! I used two easy coats, and got a decent amount of glitter every time. It dries to a bit of a textured finish, so two coat of top coat might be needed for a smooth surface. I only used one here.

Swatches: Colors by Llarowe That's A Fact, Jack!

Hiya!

Since tomorrow is the restock day for Colors by Llarowe, thought I'd share this swatches of That's A Fact, Jack! This is one of the shade that will make its last appearance tomorrow, so you might want to grab it, if you like it.
Looking from the bottle, honestly I thought I wouldn't like this one on me. Khaki is just too murky for my skin tone. But there's that pink flash that got me curious, and thinking I need to try it before hating it :p Sure enough I was wrong. After trying it, I changed my mind and think this is an interesting shade. I absolutely love the pink shimmer/flashes I see on this, although it was hard to capture with my camera. The formula is also good, not too thick, not too thin. I used 2 easy coats here and 1 coat of HK Girl top coat.

Swatches: Colors by Llarowe Army of One

Hi guys!

I received 2 new pretty in the mail today, and tonight I'm showing you one of them. It's one of the new shades from Colors by Llarowe, called Army of One. It's a dusty green with linear holographic effect. This shade is pretty unique in my holo collection, granted it's not a big collection, lol. This is the shade of green that looks quite good with my skin tone.
For the swatches here, I used 2 coats without top coat. The formula is excellent, no issues at all. In person, the green is slightly darker than shown in pics here.

Christmas Presents Skittle

Hi guys!!

Tonight I have another christmas themed nail art to share with you. This is also my last entry for Nail Polish Canada Holiday Nail Art challenge, and the theme is "Holiday Memories" which can be anything holiday related. Since I don't have a specific holiday memories I can use as inspiration, I chose the first thing that popped up in my head when I think about the holiday season, presents! I mean, who doesn't love presents?! So I created this skittle mani of gift wrapped christmas present!

As the result of my procrastinating habit, I'm not entirely happy with the result. They're ok, I like 1-2 nails (yes, I'm playing favorite on my nails :p). But honestly, they could be better.

Here's the details of what I used:
Thumb: base color CbL Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, stamped with Color Club Harp On It and BM-323 plate. For the ribbon, I used Zoya Rocky.
Index: base color OPI Under The Mistletoe, stamped with Color Club Cloud Nine and Pueen 46 plate. For the ribbon, I used Zoya Tomoko lined with CbL Behead The Drama Queen.
Middle: base color CbL Zipper, decal stamped with Girly Bits Peel Here, OPI Under The Mistletoe, Color Club Harp On It and Pueen 38 plate. I used CbL Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star for the ribbon.
Ring: base color Illamasqua Radium, stamped with CbL Behead The Drama Queen and Pueen 42 plate. OPI Under The Mistletoe is used for the ribbon.
Pinkie: base color Girly Bits Peel Here, dotted with CbL Behead The Drama Queen  & OPI Under The Mistletoe. For The ribbon, I used OPI This Gown Needs A Crown lined with CbL Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

My favorite is the thumb. It's probably better if I didn't use textured/glitter polishes for the ribbon like I did on my index and pinkie. The ribbon ended up taking too much space on the nail and you can barely see what's going on under it, lol.
What do you guys think? :) If you like it, you could head over here and give me your vote. That would be totally awesome!

Christmas Ornament

Hi guys!

Today I have another christmas themed nail art to share with you. I created this mani as an entry for Nail Polish Canada holiday nail art challenge, and the theme is 'Decorations'. I had a few other ideas before I finally decided to do this one. I like it cause it's pretty simple but I can make it colorful, and it's also very christmas-y. The decoration I picked is christmas ornaments. I was inspired by The Nail Network nail polish christmas ornaments.

My background is a gradient, using OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue and What's With The Cattitude over a white base. All the ornaments were free-handed, started with a white polish. Colors used for the ornaments are: OPI Under The Mistletoe, OPI It's Frosty Outside, OPI Goldeneye, OPI< Catch Me In Your Net, OPI This Gown Needs a Crown,  Zoya Arabella, CbL Monkey See Monkey Do, CbL, Behead The Drama Queen, Picture Polish Imperial, Picture Polish Metallic Mush. Finished off with Glisten & Glog HK Girl top coat.

This turned out better than I expected, and i really love it! If you love it too, please vote for my mani here, I'm #36! I would really appreciate your support <3

Christmas Gradient

Hi guys!!

I have the first snow this year today! Only a little bit, but enough to get me excited and stuck my head out the window *grins*. It made me want to do some holiday themed mani. But today it's just a simple one. A red and green gradient, the official christmas colors!

The red here is OPI Under The Mistletoe and the green is CbL Behead The Drama Queen. Both a very shimmery color. I added INM Northern Lights, cause I just can't resist not to do that to ALL my gradients, lol! I finished off the gradients with Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat. My accent nail is OPI It's Frosty Outside.

I will be back with more holiday themed mani!  Hope you liked this one :)

Icy Snowflakes

Hi guys!

Entering the holiday season, I'm starting to have ideas for some nail art to match the occasion. So hopefully I will be able to translate my thoughts onto my nails, although sometimes they don't always turn out like what I hope for. This one is unfortunately one of those, lol. Strangely, I still really like it.
This will also be my entry for Nail Polish Canada 2013 Holiday Nail Art Challenge Week 1, which I just found out like 2 days ago! (Where have I been?!)

The idea was to do a subtle but sparkly snowflakes, with pond manicure style. But I think it's a little too subtle :p. My base is 2 thin coats of OPI Don't Burst My Bubble and a thin layer of OPI Which is Witch? I free-handed a big snowflake using OPI This Gown Needs a Crown, and the added another layer of Don't Burst My Bubble. On top of that, I free-handed another silver snowflake and a blue small snowflake with CbL Zipper. I finish the mani with one coat of Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat.

This is probably the first time that I really like a nude subtle mani like this. It makes me think of a snowflake princess, or something like that hahah! What do you think? :)

Colors by Llarowe Thirty Something ~ For Me and (one of) You!

Hi guys!!

This is THE post that I've been dying to share with you! I was suppose to do this yesterday, but I was out almost the whole day, so here it is! My custom CbL that I've been waiting for over a month. Now, I don't have any story behind my custom made polish. I told Leah Ann what I wanted, and she made it happen. If you haven't looked at any of the pics, you'd probably think it's a holo polish (am I right?) But no, as much as I like holo, glitter has always been my thing. I like something that look pretty anytime, anywhere, and I think glitter is just that.

I named my polish "Thirty Something", since it's a birthday gift for myself, lol. It's a violet purple glitter in a jelly base with pink, blue, and dark purple holographic sparkles. The purple is just spot on, the kind of purple that I love. And as usual, me, purple, and camera.. we don't work well together. The second bottle shot would be the closest to what I see it in person, but of course it also depends on your monitor setting.

In a light box, the bright lightning takes away the purple and makes it more blue, but can you see those sparkles?! Gah!!

Indoor natural lightning, I was lucky today is bright enough for me to be able to take these pics, cause these are the same as the bottle shot above, they look more accurate than the light box pics. I really love how the sparkles are twinkling even in a dim restaurant lightning, distracting me from the meal and conversation, lol!

Now for the fun part! I asked Leah Ann to make an extra bottle of Thirty Something so I can share it with one of my readers! This will be a two of a kind polish owned by just me and whoever wins the other bottle :). I only ask for 2 things in return, 1. Please post your mani on my fb page when you receive it, I would LOVE to see it on you! 2. Please do not enter if you plan to resell or auction it. I realize I can't make you do anything, but if I see this end up on ebay or any fb sales group (and I'm on a lot of them), you will be banned from all my future giveaway.
